17 Amazing Yoga Lessons

Sometimes life can feel so busy and hectic that even though we want to go to yoga and we know we should go to yoga, getting to yoga is actually pretty tough.But have you ever regretted going?Have you ever been bummed that you carved out the time to practice that self-care?That you finagled your schedule to be able to squeeze in a class around your kids' routines?Even though we put forth that huge effort to get to class (sometimes an even greater effort than in class!), we're always grateful to have gotten there no matter how hard it was.I wanted to share these favorite yoga lessons here, just as little nuggets of encouragement on days where it feels easier to skip yoga than to go! 

  1. If you let something or someone steal your peace, you are the loser.
  2. Keep your two feet in one boat.
  3. An open mind leads to an open body. A closed mind will inevitably lead to a closed body.
  4. A headache can usually be cured by chugging a big bottle of water.
  5. We are born babies. We die babies.
  6. Pain heals the pain. Poison heals the poison. Crazy heals the crazy. (Just heard that last one recently!)
  7. Bikram Yoga is amazingly effective for sweating out water weight when pregnant (and at all other times).
  8. If you think you can or you think you can't, you're right.
  9. Trust the yoga, it will give you what you need.
  10. Practice makes permanent.
  11. Physical stillness will help you find mental stillness.
  12. Deep breathing is an awesome stress reliever.
  13. You can't get a spine replacement like you can a hip or a knee. You can't lose your spine like you can a finger or a kidney. Take care of the one you've got.
  14. Cobra Pose = back pain medication.
  15. Yoga isn't about doing a pretty posture; it's how your attempt of the posture makes you feel.
  16. The worst yoga class is just the one you don't take.
  17. And to quote Jimmy Dugan from A League Of Their Own: "It's supposed to be hard... the hard is what makes it great."
